This year is flying by and honestly I feel like I’ve just awoke and it’s Autumn. It’s such a cosy season and I feel like you’re either an Autumn or a Summer type of person. For me Spring is always my favourite but Autumn is a close second. There’s honestly nothing better than sweater weather, having the fire on low and a stew in the slow cooker.
A lot of people resonate with autumn as we’re over the whole sweaty summer and endless festivals and body glitter filling our Instagrams. Now we’re looking forward to pumpkin spice latte season and the ones who complain about it, Halloween, Bonfire night and more. I’m going to share with you some of my favourite things about this upcoming couple of months and get you in the spirit.
Since I was a kid I’ve always loved conker collecting. I remember doing it with my brothers, my friends and we even found a couple last year when Imogen was just 1. I think it’s such a great activity to do no matter your age but it’s also great to help them explore different elements in nature. I know they’re a type of chestnut and you’re supposed to smash them with strings and well probably smash your fingers in the making too. But I think it’s just a simple fun activity.
Walking through leaves.
Who doesn’t get a rush running or walking through a pile of leaves that are crispy and crunchy?! I love to kick leaves when I walk on the paths out of the way. I can’t wait for all the leaf collecting and painting activities we’re going to do this year.
Jumpers and light coats.
This is probably singly handidly the reason why this season is the best. A bit TMI but I’m a very warm person so I walk around in a tshirt when people are covered up in coats. So the weather finally cooling down means that I get to wear light jackets and eventually towards the end of the year wear jumpers and get all snuggly.
It’s pumpkin spice latte season for a reason but I’m not a fan of the infamous drinks. I’m all about the seasonal drinks that companies come out with. I know for a fact that Costa is coming out with a Bonfire Spice Latte and that’s got me a bit excited. I’m all about honeycomb and gingerbread before Christmas (and yes, Winter is officially starting 21st December this year so it’s allowed ok?).
Is there anything more snuggly on this earth than a good thick cosy blanket. I dare you to argue with me. Stick on a good film on the telly and get your slipper socks on and a good blanket. Nothing beats it. Nothing.
Okay this might have sneaked in here. It is my birthday on September 29th which means I’m an Autumn baby. I’ve never really celebrated my birthday properly. A good takeaway or a meal with my close family is my favourite thing to do. Always a great start to the season.
I’m not talking about the store. Chelsea boots, heeled boots, doc’s. Boots season is great for keeping your feet toasty and fashionable. They’re probably the only type of footwear I like that isn’t a classic pair of Vans. I tend to vow for the platform style due to being 5″2 and makes me feel like I can conquer the world.
A lot of people tend to dislike shorter days. Dark mornings and nights aren’t a lot of people’s favourite things in the world and from a bloggers perspective it’s not the best. However, something about darker nights means easier sleep for me and I’m always on board with that!
The seasons instagram staple of lavender and sunflower fields. Pumpkin patches with the kids. I’ve never actually been to a pick your own farm and I went to venture to strawberry fields this year. Due to the absolute strange hot summer (global warming hey oh) they were all dead! So I really want to take Imogen to a pumpkin patch this year. Not just for the gram, but I think she would love wading through muddy fields to pick a pumpkin herself.
Speaking of vegetables. The time of comfort food stews, soups, curries and everything that’s loaded with vegetable goodness is upon us. It’s my favourite time of the year because honestly nothings better than dipping a crusty tiger loaf into lentil soup. MMMmmm carbs.
Bonfire night is the best smelling night of the year. I know a lot of pet owners and people with other reasons can’t stand this night in neighbourhoods but I’m all for the bigger events. We go to the one at Heaton Park and it’s just nice to spend the night watching fireworks with overpriced food and fairground music in the background.
Another holiday that IS everyone’s favourite is Halloween. I can’t wait to get into the spooky spirit and create crafts, make a costume for Imogen and go trick or treating with her. I’ll probably spend the day with her watching The Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus.
Countdown to Christmas.
The C word isn’t the one that most people want to hear, and I get ya. But with the big anticipation to Christmas is in Autumn. As I said earlier, Winter doesn’t actually start until 21st December which is a measly couple of days before the big event. I love getting into the Christmas spirit and will be attempting Blogmas this year too.
What are your favourite things about Autumn? Let me know!
