Teething is one of the worst things about raising a child. You want to take the pain away even though you might not know what’s bothering them entirely. Imogen started at 10 weeks old and it wasn’t until she was around 9 months old she got her first tooth. We’ve been through hell and back and we’ve established that she doesn’t have a high pain threshold – just like her mama. So tried just about anything and everything and I’ve previously talked about our teething essentials on my old blog. Recently we revisited using a teething necklace and teething bracelet for Imogen to knaw on while we’re out and about. But do the parent wearing accessories actually work? We’re putting Mama + Belle’s teething necklace and bracelet to the test.
Before I get into detail about teething jewellery I would just like to point out that yes, every single child is different. Sometimes it’s about trial and error with finding things to help soothe their pain, and sometimes it doesn’t ever work. We’ve tried countless things and while they don’t completely and I doubt ever will, take all the pain away but they do however, help ease it, something to apply pressure to that helps take away the pain and provide a great distraction.
In the past I’ve bought a teething necklace for Imogen. She was around 6 months old when I first tried her with it, just because she was used to putting things in her mouth at that time and her mouth was big enough to get a good chew. As things often do, it went missing and took a walk down ‘in a safe place’ lane. So recently we got into contact with Mama + Belle to test out the Aurora Mustard Teething Necklace and R was kindly sent the Maverick Mens Teething Bracelet in grey.
The jewellery from Mama + Belle ensures the highest safety and is FDA approved. They’re made from high quality good grade silicone that is odourless, tasteless and doesn’t harbour bacteria. Which means it is non toxic and BPA free. This ensures that when you’re using them with your little one that it is as safe as it can possibly be. What I particularly love about the necklace is that each bead is individually knotted to ensure that if an accident was to happen and the chain break, that others won’t fall off the necklace with it.
The necklace itself is a lovely necklace that can be easily styled with an every day outfit or even dress up because it just looks so modern. I’ve had a few compliments on it when I’ve had to explain that it is a teething necklace and so many people are surprised. It’s just so versatile as a piece to wear but also the fact that it serves a purpose amazes me. R also likes the bracelet. He’s not big on wearing jewellery so it is simple enough for his taste.
So now all was left was the test. We’ve both tried Imogen several times with both of the teethers and it’s obvious that she prefers one of them in particular. We’ve tried around the house and we’ve tried her when she’s been in her pram to see if there was a difference. When we’re in the house she likes to walk around with the bracelet like it’s actually her bracelet rather than something to knaw on and help her teething. The necklace however she likes to carry around and chew on when shes teething and trying to shove her fingers into her mouth. It is a lot easier when she’s out and and about and she sits happily playing with them both and trying to knaw on them but she still prefers the necklace out of the two. Personally I think this is just due to the fact it’s bigger for her to chew on. I feel like both teethers work for her just in different ways so I wouldn’t say one is better than the other at this point for her.
I would highly recommend trying out a teething necklace or bracelet of any kinds just because as much as they are cute to wear, they are useful too. Plus it also depends on your child’s preferences. I think it’s such an amazing way to help teething rather than just any old teether that can get thrown and lost, it’s something that you can sit and let them enjoy and share a moment together. Even if that moment is red cheeks, fists in mouth and being grumpy because of the pain.
You can purchase the necklace and bracelets from here as well as all other sorts of cute pieces!
What do you think about teething necklaces and bracelets? Are they for you?
