It’s been a couple of months since the internet went wild over Sleepy. But what is it?! The magical body lotion that apparently helps with depression, insomnia and helps kids get kids to sleep. Is this for real? Is it really that good and is it worth the buy? Here is what I really think of LUSH‘s Sleepy.
So Sleepy is actually a body lotion from LUSH which if you are a fan of, might recognise the smell as it’s in the same family as the Twilight scents, and the LUSH Christmas Pud range. It’s a sweet calming smell that I’ve loved for so many years and when I heard everyone going mad about it, I was dying to try it out for myself. Now, I’m not usually a body lotion fan either so this really is the most honest review you’ll probably find. Once I realised that the smell was probably my favourite ever from LUSH I was hooked, but as much as I like the smell did it work for me and my daughter? And what is it actually like as a lotion?
When my partner came home with the big tub I got to try it out for the first time. I was beyond excited because let’s face it, if it’s sold out in LUSH it’s got to at least smell amazing to make people want to buy it! When I first tried it on the back of my hand I found that a little goes a long way with the product and although it is slightly expensive for what it is, you’ll get your usage out of it. It’s thick and creamy which when rubbed into the skin goes a long way but doesn’t sit and get sticky. The perfect consistency that you know is working it’s magic.
The sweet lavender and soothing Tonka perfume scented lotion claims to ‘moisturise skin and lock in hydration to keep skin soft, supple and comfortable all day or all night long‘ according to the LUSH website. Using mostly natural ingredients and good for your skin safe synthetics you know you’re going to get what is best for your body.
I tried it on myself to see if I really got a better night’s sleep. I used to suffer really bad insomnia all the way through college and university up until Imogen was around 5 months old. I was burnt out. How I wish they had a magic cure (that isn’t sleeping pills) to have helped me through that time. I often find my sleep to be quite light so I thought I would give it a go to see if it helped me relax.
As the scent is familiar to me, it’s almost nostalgic and makes me long for Christmas nights with a relax in the bath. The first night I tried it, I didn’t actually find myself sleeping any better. I don’t know if that was because I was trying to over analyse the lotion and it’s magic or if it just didn’t work it’s magic on me. I did find myself relaxing a lot more before I went to sleep and not trying to think about every single detail and stress that is going on currently in my life.
Now, for my daughter. We’re always very wary about what we use on her skin as she suffers from eczema so we did a little test on her shoulder before smothering her skin in it after a bath. We don’t tend to use a lot of lotions for this exact reason so it was great to see that her skin didn’t react or flare up in any sort of way. It deeply moisturizes her slightly dry skin (we only use bubble bath and water on her skin) and it really hydrated it back to a great condition. For someone who has to avoid things for their daughter it really helped her skin. After her bath we put a little on her back, tummy arms and legs and gave her a relaxing massage. She slept a lot better that night and only joined us in our bed at 4am (for us, that’s amazing). It didn’t help to get her to sleep through the night completely but it helped her to sleep better at night.
For me personally I would probably use the lotion after a bath to make my skin feel smoother and to cover myself in the lovely sweet smell rather than use it to help lift my mood or to help me sleep better at night as it didn’t do a complete magic trick but it is lovely and I do adore the smell.
I think it would depend on each person differently but as with all of LUSH’s products, the smell is very strong and I would recommend trying it in store as it is so sweet that it might not be everyone’s cup of tea so if you can’t get on board with the smell, it might not be for you. However, the way it moisturises the skin is amazing especially on my dry skin and my daughter’s which is delicate.
I personally love it and not for the reasons everyone is ranting and raving about. But only you would know if it really works for you.
Until next time,
